Honouring Life
Tansi Swan River Youth & Community Members:
My name is Carrie, and I am the Swan River Health Centre, Honouring Life Coordinator for the “HONOURING LIFE” Indigenous Youth Suicide Prevention – Aboriginal Youth Communities and Empowerment Strategy.
What is Honouring life you ask?
Honouring Life is part of a larger Provincial Action Plan for Youth Suicide Prevention, and the intention is to increase resiliency and holistic wellness in First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities.
Honouring Life has been blessed through ceremony and aligns with the vision of the Elders and the project has been built on the foundation of “The Community Is the Medicine Model” (CITM) which respects:
- Caring Connections
- Respectful Empowerment
- Purposeful Roles and
- Cultural/Spiritual Vision
Honouring Life will build upon the strengths identified by you, our Swan River youth and community to support resiliency and Community-Based Wellness.
The vision of Honouring Life is that our youth are balanced, healthy and hopeful about their life journeys, proud of their cultural identities, and confident in pursuing success in their lives and the community. There will be many fun and exciting opportunities and projects for you to be a part of over the next few months and I very much look forward to working with our youth, elders and community, a community I am proud to be a part of.
